Preserving Creation
Kolping sees the world as a unity of humanity and nature . The preservation of creation is inextricably linked to service to humanity . Therefore, we are participating in Wohlleben's Forest Academy's primeval forest project. For the next 50 years, we will be sponsors of a 30,000 m² forest area .
Our commitment
As a large Kolping community, we see the needs of our time as a call to action: We advocate for effective measures to mitigate human-induced climate change. Impressed by the pristine nature of the Primeval Forest Project, we are happy to assume responsibility for a 30,000 m² forest area with beech trees more than 250 years old. In doing so, we want to do our part to preserve the forest as an intact and functioning ecosystem – without human intervention. Furthermore, we want to make nature accessible through appropriate on-site measures and experiences, and protect the climate. For each square meter of forest area, 70 kg of CO2 are bound for the long term, protecting habitats for thousands of animals and plants.
KOLPING bears responsibility
As a globally active association—with more than 200,000 members, one of Germany's largest civil society players—we are committed to preserving the foundations of human life. A commitment to sustainability is a natural part of this philosophy. The Kolping Society has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral. This starts at the grassroots level: Our Kolping Youth promotes climate change with their Climate Mobile as part of low-threshold educational work, which is continued in the sustainable modernization and management practices of all the association's facilities and companies. With the establishment of Sonne Wind Wald Kolping Projektentwicklungs gGmbH, KOLPING aims to actively shape the energy transition and climate protection.

250-year-old beech trees
The area protected by KOLPING is home to majestic beech trees, some over 250 years old. Near-natural forests of this age are rare in Germany – yet these forests are teeming with life and provide habitat for approximately twelve to thirteen thousand species. Thanks to our commitment, the trees here are allowed to continue growing undisturbed and become primeval forest again.
