Identifying wild herbs throughout the year - a 3-day wild herb course
Wild herbs are small wonders of nature. We find different plants depending on the season – they can look very different throughout the year. How can you identify and recognize wild herbs? What should you look for when collecting edible herbs, and how can you prepare them?
Together with herbal expert Jan Kaufmann, you'll delve into the fascinating world of wild herbs and learn about these edible plants on three dates throughout the year from March to October. The sessions build on each other thematically and are also suitable for beginners.
March herbs – full plant power
You'll gain an introduction to the world of edible plants, both through your senses and through theoretical background. How do I identify plants, what should I look for when collecting, and what benefits do wild herbs have in our diet?
On an excursion through the fields and meadows, you'll discover the first spring herbs sprouting from the ground, putting all their energy into sprouting. Accordingly, they're packed with valuable minerals, vitamins, and exciting aromas.
At the end of the day-long seminar, the collected treasures will of course be processed.
June herbs – drawing from abundance
In June, wild herbs are full of life and strength; they are now in bloom and therefore easy to identify. You can now take full advantage of the abundance and explore and taste the great diversity of the herbal world. Together, you will review the herbs you discovered in early spring and expand your palette to include other plants. You will then prepare your own wild herb lunch during the seminar, and you will learn various methods for making simple delicacies from wild herbs.
October herbs – recharge your batteries before winter
Summer is over; the plants have survived the heat and dry periods, bloomed, and produced seeds. Some plants have already said goodbye for this year, while others are now sprouting a second flush of fresh greenery before winter sets in. What herbs can you find this time of year? What about different locations? Delicious meals can also be conjured up with wild herbs in the fall—you'll expand your range of options in the course. At the end of the course, you'll round out your view of the herbal year and, together with Jan, delve deeper into the fascinating background of plants.
